Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Compassionate, evidence-based care for intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors
Understanding OCD
OCD is a mental health condition marked by obsessions (unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that create anxiety) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental rituals performed to reduce that anxiety). People with OCD often know the thoughts don’t make sense, yet feel intense pressure to perform rituals. With the right treatment, OCD is highly manageable.
Common Symptoms
- Intrusive fears about harm, contamination, or making mistakes
- Excessive checking (locks, appliances, reassurance seeking)
- Contamination concerns and cleaning/washing rituals
- Ordering, arranging, or repeating until it feels “just right”
- Unwanted taboo thoughts (e.g., religious, sexual) that conflict with values
- Counting, mental reviewing, or neutralizing thoughts
- Significant time spent on rituals, impacting daily life
